Introduction to colored asphalt
Colored asphalt is composed of colored asphalt binder (also known as decolorized asphalt) and corresponding chemical dyes (color).
Colored asphalt binder
It is synthesized by a special process in special equipment from various petroleum products such as base oil, viscose, asphaltenes, additives, and stabilizers. In order to make its performance meet the standard of modified asphalt for road use, it is modified with modified materials such as SBS, SBR, SAS, etc. at the same time. The performance of its main indicators has reached or exceeded that of road asphalt, and it is a new type of environmentally friendly road material. Its performance indicators are generally divided into two categories
① Road engineering indicators are generally tested by the inspection method of heavy traffic asphalt, which should meet the standards of heavy traffic asphalt. Due to the different quality indicators and addition ratios of various materials in the synthesis process, they directly determine the road strength and stability of the cementitious material.
② Coloring index, the completed pavement project should be able to fully reflect the color of the selected dye. Due to the different grades and quality indicators of the raw materials used in the cementing material, the base color of the cementing material will have a shade of color difference. Thus affecting the brightness of the pavement engineering color.
The amount of binder added is generally similar to the amount of asphalt added to black asphalt concrete of the same gradation.
Chemical Dye (Color)
The project should use domestic famous brand high temperature resistant, oil-soluble chemical pigments, and the specific color can be selected by the user according to the supplier's color card. Generally, the recommended dosage is 2.5%-3%.
The quality of the dyes (colors) currently sold in the market varies greatly, and dyes of different quality grades have a great impact on the color and durability of pavement engineering. Colored asphalt binder and color are usually mixed with stone, mineral powder, etc. in the mixing pot of the asphalt mixing station to form colored asphalt hot mix mixture. After on-site paving and rolling, it becomes a colored pavement project.
